Forum Facilitation

Forum Facilitation
For more than a decade, I’ve been attending and facilitating forum retreats—from both sides of the table. That experience has taught me a few important lessons:
When someone from your own team or organization handles the organizing and facilitation, it’s incredibly hard for them to fully participate. In the end, they often sacrifice their own experience for everyone else’s.
When I’ve personally hired a facilitator, my expectations were high—I wanted real value for both my time and money. That only happened about half the time.
Just because someone has done something extraordinary doesn’t mean they’re a great facilitator.
The most impactful facilitators were the ones who had sat on the other side of the table and truly understood the dynamics of the group.
